We chose not to put our lives in danger this year, LOL. We opted out of "Black Friday" shopping and decided to have a fun family day at the zoo. We saw lots of these animals......and more:

"Old Soldiers Never Die....They Just Fade Away"
My dad used to always say, "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away." On November 11, 2010 (Veteran's Day), my dad (an old soldier - WWII Veteran) faded away. He had been slowly "fading" over the past 4 months.
Even when you know it is coming, it does not make it any easier. My parents celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this past July. Can you imagine 61 years together? I am glad that I had the chance to see my father as a grandfather.
Growing up, I knew that he loved me......but our relationship was not a close one. I was able to see him through different eyes as I saw him being "pa" to my children. He was always so proud of their accomplishments. They loved to be at Mema's and Pa's house even more than they loved to be home, I think. They spent countless hours playing silly games, such as I spy, the "car" game, Trouble, and listening to stories from his youth. He got down on their level, when all the other grown ups were busing being.........well, grown ups. He loved to watch his grandchildren at their many events........dance, sports, etc. He kept a collection of Starburst candy for when the grandkids came to his house. They all knew Pa loved them. Although he sometimes appeared to be "rough around the edges", his true self was revealed through his poetry. One of his websites is www.poemsbyralph.com.
Dad and Pa, we love you and will miss you!!
